In her art, Hikari Shimoda reveals the struggles of humankind using motifs from manga and anime. Saturated with glitters and bright colours, viewers are lured into a dreamland of our darkest desires and fears, which are heightened in the midst of a pandemic.

On her inspiration: "All kinds of terrible situations surrounding the world in recent years have led to the various concerns of human beings. Their power continues to amplify mutual hatred, and as a result, the world's divisions continue to deepen. All those who just wish for peace are swallowed by the great current, wavering, becoming a part of something, and still living their days as 'nobody's nameless people'. There are many kinds of 'pains' that exist in this world. Through a more conceptualized human figure, I depict these 'pains' as visible scars or emotions."
