Anchorage Museum has designed a new, all-ages exhibition for the pop-culture obsessed, "exploring the many forms of expression behind the things people like in our mass and global culture." "The Art of Fandom" features new work by Hikari Shimoda, showing alongside international artists like Sebastian Masuda, Red Hong Yi, Cliff Wright, Marco d’Alfonso and others.
On view is Hikari's manga-inspired series, entitled "Humanity's Ruin", where her characters fully embrace humanity’s ruin. This ongoing series tells the story of a Messiah created by the human race, only to eventually destroy it, leaving two lone survivors. The series was first shown earlier this year in Hikari's solo exhibition "Memento Mori" at Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles.

Included are anime, manga and Japanese-inspired culture, comic books and graphic novels, literature and television fandom, furry fandom, music and real-person fandom. This is an international exhibition, with artists from Japan, Australia, Canada, Netherlands, United Kingdom and United States.
